Georgy Poltavchenko

Georgy Poltavchenko graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation in 1976 and started his career as an engineer at the defense plant „Leninets”. He occupied several posts in the regional division of the Committee for State Security (KGB) in Leningrad and Leningrad region in 1979-1994, ultimately becoming chief of department of the KGB Vyborg directorate.He headed Federal Tax Police Service Directorate for St. Petersburg (1994-1999), and then served as Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Leningrad Region (1999- 2000), and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District (2000-2011). In August 2011 he was appointed Governor of St. Petersburg.
